Gosh, it's hard to say what the error is or even how you're trying to
create them. It might be in creation, naming or uploading the pages.

How are you trying to create them? What page name (almost always, the
default page for a site has to be index.htm, index.html, index.shtml,
or index.php -- the .htm and .html are most common)? Where are you
trying to host the files -- your ISP (which one), Geocities, or where?

If you want to use a WYSIWYG editor, check out Nvu (pronounced
N-view). It's free at http://www.nvu.com . It's just been released
in version 1.0, after several public beta versions.

If you want to code it in HTML, you can use Nvu's HTML tab -- that's
also a great way to learn HOW the page is structured. You can create
it in WYSIWYG mode, then switch to HTML to begin understanding it.

If you want a good beginning book on HTML that's not very expensive,
I've got review of one on my site at

The book Terry mentioned is a very good book., I bought it as a reference to
learn some of the latest types of scripts and HTML codes.

I have been using AOLPRESS as my HTML editor. You can Google it and find the
files. It is outdated and has been replaced but it has a good tutorial and
got me started. I usually edit and change the source using AOLPRESS so that
it can check my syntax.

BTW: before you try to use the CGI interfaces, make sure your hosting ISP
supports it. Two of my latest ISPs do not support it because there are
security holes in it.

No need to learn html coding. The best free web page editor is Nvu, no
question about it. It's graphic design mode makes cut and paste and drag
and drop instant. http://www.nvu.com/download.html

Free Tutorial too, below.

AOL press? Keep in mind that AOL and Nvu are based on Mozilla Composer.
Just that Nvu is current technology, while the aol version was discontinued,
old as crackerjacks.
